Founded in 2015 by Cameron Botha and Stephan van der Walt, OAK Youth Theatre has
grown into one of Pretoria’s most vibrant platforms for young talent, dedicated to nurturing
performers in acting, singing, and dancing while instilling values of teamwork, resilience, and
creativity. Over the past decade, OAK has produced beloved musical theatre classics while
shaping the next generation of South African performers. The 10 Year Celebration showcase will feature musical numbers from OAK’s most memorable productions — including Alice in Wonderland, Thumbelina, Cinderella,
Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Shrek the Musical, and The Little Mermaid.
Audiences can expect a powerful blend of nostalgia and fresh energy, as performances will
be brought to life by the current OAK workshop participants, the OAK Team themselves,
and a host of alumni from previous productions.
Among the alumni returning to the stage are Jaco Smith (now OAK’s resident Musical
Director), Jackie Lulu, Miguel Deservantes, Diego Hamity, Reinier Van Zyl, Danny
Meaker, and Rikus Strauss — showcasing the enduring bond between OAK and its
graduates who have continued to shine in the performing arts world.
“Over the past ten years, OAK Youth Theatre has grown into more than just a stage for
young performers — it has become a home where talent, creativity, and confidence are
nurtured. This celebration is not only a tribute to the incredible journeys of our students but
also a promise of the bright future we continue to build together.” — Cameron Botha, Director
What started as a dream has become a theatre family: after Stephan van der Walt departed to
tour internationally, Tarryn Botha joined Cameron in building OAK into a thriving
company, while alumni like Jaco Smith transitioned into leadership roles — proof of the
company’s strong foundation and commitment to legacy.
